Dr. Salafsky is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Northwestern University Medical School. He completed a pediatric residency and a fellowship in clinical and research genetics at The Children's Memorial Hospital. The head of the Division of Genetics and Director of the Cytogenetic Laboratory at Evanston Hospital, he is a Senior Attending Physician at Evanston Hospital, an attending pediatrician and geneticist at The Children's Memorial Hospital, and a consultant in genetics to The Shriner's Hospital for Children in Chicago. Dr. Salafsky is also an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Northwestern University Medical School and plays a key role in the teaching of Pediatrics and Genetics at that school. He is board certified in Pediatrics and in Genetics, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Founding Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics. Dr. Salafsky has published numerous papers in the fields of pediatrics and genetics as well as a book for parents on the use of medicine in children. In addition to his long experience in general pediatrics, his research and clinical interests in genetics give him special expertise in prenatal diagnosis, and in serving families with a history of genetic disease as well as treating children with birth defects and mental retardation.
